Job Description

Core Responsibilities

Environmental Leadership & Compliance; Oversee and ensure strict adherence to international, national, regional, port, and company environmental policies and regulations.; Serve as shipboard expert on environmental laws, providing guidance to crew and liaising with shoreside teams.; Report any regulatory or SQM violations to the Director, Environmental Programs for resolution.;

Operational Expertise

Verify the functionality of key environmental systems (e.g., Oily Water Separator, Effluent Sampling, Water Treatment).; Support shipboard public health initiatives (e.g., sanitation, water safety, pest control).; Participate in safety drills and emergency response activities, including spill control, fire, and evacuation.;

Cost Savings & Efficiency

Recommend and support environmentally friendly practices that reduce costs (recycling, energy efficiency, waste management).; Assist in managing the ship’s environmental budget and track KPIs related to environmental performance.; Guest Engagement & Brand Representation; Promote our “Save the Waves” initiative through guest interactions, presentations, and tours.; Ensure all guest communications are professional, on-brand, and visually appealing.;

Future-Focused Innovation

Collaborate with operational leaders to develop eco-friendly systems, procedures, and work practices.; Lead initiatives to improve sustainability and public health standards onboard.; Regulatory & Community Relations; Liaise with government agencies, port authorities, waste vendors, and class societies.; Conduct vendor due diligence and site inspections when needed to ensure compliance.;

Qualifications & Skills

Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Marine Transportation, or related field (Biology, Chemistry, Engineering).; Preferred: Degrees in Environmental Management/Science with marine emphasis.; Valid certifications: STCW Basic Safety, Firefighting, Train the Trainer.; Experience: 3-5 years in environmental management, emergency response, or maritime compliance.; Strong understanding of maritime regulations (MARPOL, ISM, ISO 14001).; Excellent English communication skills—verbal and written.; Demonstrated ability to train, lead, and influence diverse teams.;

Physical & Technical Requirements

Capable of participating in emergency drills, including lifeboat operations.; Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds.; Full visual, verbal, and hearing abilities to ensure safety and effective communication.;
