Responsibilities:

Elwyn California seeks a Mobile Crisis Specialist or Mobile Crisis Worker (MCW) to jointhe Children's Mobile Team. This role is responsible for responding to mental health crises upon dispatch from the Department Behavioral Health Intellectual Disabilities Service (DBHIDS). The MCW's function is to work with children, adolescents and their families to assess and de-escalate a crisis, determine the level of care necessary to meet the individual's needs, develop alternatives to involuntary hospitalization through conducting assessments, treatment planning, counseling, and coordination of community care linkages and discharge process. The MCW will also coordinate the involuntary hospitalization process in situations where individuals present as dangerous to themselves or others. The MCW will act as an advocate and represent the needs and rights of persons served with outside social service agencies, families, etc.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide an assessment and interventions in person and by telephone for adolescents, and children throughout region 2 of Philadelphia, wherever the crisis is occurring
  • Develop and implement a crisis stabilization plan
  • Develop and secure appropriate services for individuals in crisis, including referrals to voluntary inpatient settings and applications for involuntary emergency examination and treatment under 302 of the Mental Health Procedures Act 143 of 1976. Provide linkages to community supports, supportive counseling, and substance abuse services and always reflect the possibility of recovery
  • Complete referrals for follow-up services by community mental health and other Assist in completion of application for entitlements.
  • Complete Emergency Care Provider Intake
  • Provide all appropriate documentation set forth by Director including intakes, progress notes, medical charting, discharge plans, and individual assessments
  • Advocate for individuals served with outside agencies including, but not limited to Social Security, Department of Public Welfare, and DBHIDS
  • Interface with families of persons served and other interested parties
  • Maintain communication with physician, psychiatrist, pharmacist, and other appropriate ancillary service providers such as speech therapy, physical therapy, and occupational therapy as relevant to providing emergent services
  • Intervene in crisis situations
  • Attend scheduled staff team meetings and appropriate inservice training as directed by supervisor
  • Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary team; maintain complete and accurate clinical record
  • Conduct fire drills and building inspections and provide the appropriate documentation for same
  • Remain on duty until relieved
  • Maintain current certification/re-certification of CPR, First Aid and Medication Administration certification
  • Provide counseling, guidance, support, resources and encouragement to persons served to take responsibility for and actively participate in their own recovery
  • Collaborate with the team to promote a team culture in which each person's point of view, experiences, and preferences are recognized, understood, and respected, and in which the person' self-determination and decision making in treatment planning are maximized and supported
  • Cross train as a case manager within the Children's Mobile Intervention Service
  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and crisis intervention techniques using agency-trained protocols
  • Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS :

  • Bachelor 's degree in a human service field (Behavioral Health, Social Work, Psychology, Education, Criminal Justice)
  • One (1) year behavioral healthcare experience in a child or adolescent setting
  • Knowledge of drug and alcohol services available in the Philadelphia area
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Must be able to perform CPR and crisis intervention techniques using agency-trained protocols
  • Must possess excellent customer interaction, collaboration, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated basic experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Must possess a current, valid driver's license in state of residence, have a minimum of two (2) years of driving experience within the United States, and have an acceptable driving record
