STATEMENT OF THE AGENCY:
Commonpoint is a multifaceted community center dedicated to sustaining and enhancing the quality of individual, family, and communal life throughout New York City, offering services to people of all ages, ability levels, stages of life, and backgrounds. They strive to meet the evolving needs of their community of over 100,000 members, ranging from providing in-school and after-school programs, professional and career development, assistance with food insecurity, legal services, financial counseling, mental health services, senior classes, dementia care programs, and tax preparation assistance to name a few. Commonpoint has grown tremendously in the last five years and now has a mission-driven staff of 3,000 and over 80 sites in the five boroughs.

Camp Background: Island Quest Day Camp joins the agencies of Commonpoint, Friedberg JCC, Suffolk Y JCC, & Gural JCC to present an innovative day camp located in Wheatley Heights at the Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds. Island Quest Day Camp is open to ages 4-15 and will provide a unique opportunity for campers as they find their quest through seek, innovate and compete program areas.

• 2025 Season: June 30-August 21.
• Monday to Friday: 9 am to 3:30pm.

Responsibilities include but are not limited:

• Available for all pre-season staff trainings (selected days in Spring 2025).
• Structuring assignments and projects to encourage students to work together in a variety of formal and informal ways, and provide ongoing support for them to do so.
• Maintain a garden and teach the campers on how to maintain it, as well as any lessons around the benefits of it.
• Instruct Counselors and Campers on safe use of equipment.
• Ability to take care of chickens, rabbits, snakes, bugs and ducks and the coop they inhabit, as well as provide lessons around it to the campers.
• Facilitate developmentally appropriate nature learning activities, experiences and assessments to foster intellectual, physical and social growth.

Essential Job Functions Pre Camp:

• Staff Trainings.
• Attend planning meetings & program development (as needed).
• CPR/First Aid Training (as needed).
• Help in developing the scope and sequence of quest (specialty) curriculum and personalize and implement lesson plans.
• Participate in training and collaborative lesson planning and scheduling.
• Help get garden going with a self watering system and maintaining 2-3 hours per week.
• Help order animals and supplies for animals.

Essential Job Functions Camp 365:

• Attend off -season events such as recruitment events and parent/camper engagement events both virtually and/or in-person.
