The Houston Marriott Westchase Hotel is looking to hire an On-Call Banquet Server

Position Summary: The Banquets Server is responsible for providing outstanding food and beverage service during banquet events. This role involves setting up, preparing, and tearing down banquet dining areas. The banquet server provides excellent service by serving food and drinks to guests with a smile, as well as bus tables as guests finish, all the while ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction throughout the event.

Scheduling: This is an On Call/Part-Time position. This position requires open availability to work any day of the week, including weekends and holidays, based on business needs. Your schedule can both AM and PM shifts, to support operational requirements.

• Offers warm and sincere welcome with a smile as guests arrive, and farewell as they leave.
• Set-up for event functions to include draping tables, setting silverware, folding napkins, preparing drinks and putting out table centerpieces.
• Service includes picking up food from back-hall, carrying trays to function location, serving food and clearing the food from the tables.
• Break down to include bussing tables, putting away dirty linen and centerpieces, vacuuming.
• Performs food & beverage preparation duties such as preparing condiments, brewing coffee, and ensuring workstations are stocked.
• Memorizes event menu and explains how various menu items are prepared, cooking methods and ingredients.
• Ensures final quality check on food and beverage items prior to and while serving guests.
• Monitors assigned tables for customer satisfaction, quality, and additional service.
• Takes into consideration and forwards information to Banquet captains of any special request and dietary issues made by the guest.
• Maintains constant awareness of safety issues, (i.e. broken glass, frayed electrical cords, leaks, broken locks and suspicious persons)

Supportive Functions: All associates are expected to perform any other duties as requested by management to support other departments and/or operational requirements.

• Able to communicate in the English language, both verbally and written, to effectively understand event details and requests, understand menus, and communicate with guest to explain orders and write down requests.
• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills are essential.
• Work well in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency.
• Standing, either stationary or extensive walking, duration of shift, with frequent bending, squatting, and side-to-side movement.
• Able to extend arms; frequent and repeated bending and stooping and ability to carry and/or lift trays up to 20 lbs.
• May be exposed to varying noise levels and temperature conditions depending on the events being held.
• Hearing and visual ability to observe and detect signs of emergency situations.

Professional Licenses/Certifications:

• Must have a valid (1) Texas Food Handler Certification and (2) TABC Certificate.

Experience

• One year of previous experience in food and beverage service is required, preferably in a banquet or event setting.

Grooming/Uniforms:

• Associates must maintain a professional, neat, clean and well-groomed appearance.
• Specific uniform guidelines and/or required articles of clothing will be explained to you as a part of the orientation process.
