Role: Technical Project Manager (Data Governance)
Location: Oakland, CA Hybrid (3X Onsite per week)
Long Term Contract W2 / C2C
Position Details: We are seeking a highly experienced and results-driven Project Manager to lead and implement an end-to-end Data Governance framework from the ground up for our enterprise customer. This role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of data governance principles, strong project management capabilities, and the ability to work cross-functionally with business and technical teams.

Required Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field.
Overall IT Experience: 10-15+ Years
8+ years of experience in Project Management with at least 3 5 years focused on Data Governance or Data Management initiatives.
Proven experience in building and leading Data Governance programs from the ground up.
Strong understanding of data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK), data quality management, and regulatory compliance.
Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and leadership skills.
Experience with data governance tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Alation, Talend) is a plus.
PMP, PRINCE2, or similar project management certification preferred.
Preferred Attributes:
Experience working in large-scale enterprise environments.
Ability to influence and drive consensus across diverse stakeholders.
Strategic mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Preferred to have Atlan and Collibra tool experience
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the full lifecycle of the Data Governance program from planning and strategy through execution and operationalization.
Develop and implement Data Governance frameworks, policies, standards, and procedures.
Collaborate with data owners, stewards, business stakeholders, and IT to define data ownership, stewardship, and accountability.
Establish and manage a data governance council or committee.
Define and implement metadata management, data quality, data lineage, and data classification processes.
Oversee the selection and implementation of Data Governance tools/platforms.
Drive change management, user adoption, and data literacy across the organization.
Ensure compliance with data regulations and industry standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA).
Monitor progress and report on the status, risks, and milestones to executive stakeholders.
