Job Description

An international asset management firm is seeking a Vice President, Risk Officer / Operational Analyst to lead the development and oversight of its U.S. risk management function. This newly created role stems from a strategic initiative to internalize risk management processes and support the firm’s growing middle- and back-office operations, particularly in fixed income.

The successful candidate will oversee investment risk and operational risk, develop risk frameworks, and manage key operational functions. This is a high-impact position requiring strong analytical skills and collaboration with local and overseas teams.

Responsibilities

1) Risk Management

  • Establish and implement risk management policies and procedures aligned with global standards
  • Monitor, assess, and report on investment risks
  • Propose and apply risk mitigation strategies
  • Coordinate with the parent company to ensure consistent risk oversight
  • Prepare risk reports for senior management as needed

2) Middle & Back Office Operations

  • Manage trade processing, settlement, reconciliation, reporting, and corporate actions
  • Oversee operations related to investment trusts and funds
  • Maintain strong relationships with custodians, counterparties, and service providers
  • Handle audits and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Support performance reporting and fund/portfolio launches
  • Maintain accurate operational data

3) Communication & Collaboration

  • Report to the President and liaise with the parent company in Japan
  • Work closely with local staff including the Chief Compliance Officer
  • Represent the firm professionally in interactions with external partners and regulators

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in risk management; experience in asset management operations preferred
  • Knowledge of asset management industry practices and regulatory environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Proficiency in Excel, VBA, SQL
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Japanese language skill a plus.
  • Professional certifications such as CFA or FRM are a plus
  • High ethical standards and ability to work independently as well as in teams
